About Us
Meet Cowboy
In 2021 Cowboy was picked up by animal control in Texas as a stray. Three months later he was transported to Golden Valley, Minnesota in better hopes of adoption. Upon arriving to Minnesota, Cowboy was diagnosed with severe heart worm disease, partial blindness, and an extensive list of further medical and behavioral problems . Because of this, he sat another two months in a shelter with no prospects until October 10th, 2021. Cowboy was ready to go home the second we met and the rest was history. Over time with training, patience, and lots of love Cowboy has become the thing in life I am most proud of. He now enjoys sleeping-in late, pup cups, splashing water in the bath tub, swimming in the lake in the summer, and long car rides. To him, it is now his world and everyone else just exists in it. To be fair, every dog should get to feel that special in their life.
Meet Tilly
Tilly a.k.a "Mama", is the newest addition to the family. On August 24th, Tilly was offically adopted into her furever home. She had been in a shelter in Aberdeen, South Dakota for 3 months, also with no prospects. Tilly was so scared of anyone and anything that she wouldn't let people near enough to meet her, until August 10th, 2024. Tilly let Cowboy and I close enough to go on a walk together. That small walk was big enough for me to know she was family. On August 24th, 2024 Tilly came to her furever home. She continues to grow more outgoing and spunky with each passing day. Tilly's newest obessions include eating dirt, stashing as many toys as possible under her dog bed, barking at absolutely nothing in the yard, and playing chase.
Meet Me
My name is Sommer Hamiel and I am the owner of Cowboy's Kennel. Growing up I was the kid that made paper presentations, gave speeches, and renlentlessly begged and pleaded to convince my parents into letting me bring another pet home. It started with one barn cat from my grandpa's farm when I was two years old, and eventually turned into a total of three dogs, three cats, and countless fish by the time I went off to college. When I was nineteen, in my second year of undergraduate school, I lived in a very small apartment in the middle of Minneapolis and had no money. I, at the time, for some reason thought it was the perfect time to adopt a dog. In retrospect, there were 101 different reasons on why it was a terrible idea for me to do that at the time, but I did it anyway. And that is how I got my soul dog, Cowboy. Fastforward, 3 years later and I bought my first home and started a business for and because of Cowboy. All thanks to that one "terrible" idea I went through with as a teenager, I now get to live my dream of loving dogs as my career and I am incredibly thankful everyday for it.
My motivation behind opening Cowboy's Kennel, besides wanting to be able to bring my dog to work everyday, is my strong belief that every dog deserves to experience what it feels like to be loved and safe. I have had the first hand experience of seeing how these things can transform any dog, and there is nothing more satisfying in my heart to see than that. I hope to provide that feeling of comfort to other dogs, besides my own as well. Cowboy's Kennel is created to be the place that makes having to leave your dog while you go out of town less scary and nerve racking, for BOTH of you.
